Yu Darvish trade rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers acquire former Texas Rangers ace (report) – MassLive.com

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a last-minute deal to acquire Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish at the MLB trade deadline on Monday, according to Ken Rosenthal.

The deal was reported after the 4 p.m. deadline, as speculation began to rise that Darvish might simply finish the season in Texas.

Instead, Darvish joins a Dodgers team that is in first place in the┬áNational League West by a 17-game margin over the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles’ 74-31 record is the best in the majors.

Darvish is 6-9 this year with an ERA of 4.01. He has a WHIP of 1.168, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 148/45. He will join Clayton Kershaw and Alex Wood in a potent three-pitcher lineup that could be difficult to eck out runs against in the postseason.

Meanwhile, the Rangers couldn’t acquire Alex Verdugo — one of the top prospects in the majors. They did, however, acquire second baseman Willie Calhoun, a high-level infield prospect.

Calhoun got national attention earlier this season for trying (and succeeding) to hit home runs like Babe Ruth in AAA.
