US, EU reject expanded laptop ban on flights from Europe – New York Post

Officials nixed a proposed ban on passengers carrying laptops and other large gadgets on flights from Europe to the US, according to reports.

American and European Union honchos decided against extending the prohibition — already in place on many flights from the Middle East — after a four-hour meeting on Wednesday, the BBC reports.

Leaders were worried that terrorists could conceal bombs in laptops, iPads and other gizmos, but the airline industry leaders strongly opposed the ban, which they said will create logistical chaos at airports and put fliers at risk by stuffing the cargo hold with flammable lithium-ion batteries.
