UM football ranked 18th in preseason coaches’ poll – Miami Herald

The Miami Hurricanes are in the top 20 — 18 to be exact.

The Hurricanes were ranked 18th on Thursday afternoon among the Top 25 in the Amway Coaches Poll, the first major preseason poll released.

Alabama (14-1 in 2016) is ranked No. 1, followed by No. 2 Ohio State (11-2), No. 3 Florida State (10-3), No. 4 Southern California (10-3), defending national champion and No. 5 Clemson (14-1), No. 6 Penn State (11-3), No. 7 Washington (12-2), No. 8 Oklahoma (11-2), No. 9 Michigan (10-3) and No. 10 Wisconsin (11-3) to wrap up the top 10.

Florida is 16th, two spots ahead of the Canes.

The Canes, who finished 9-4 last year, won their first bowl game in 10 years and ended the season with their first five-game winning streak since their 2001 national championship campaign. They will meet the No. 3 Seminoles on Sept. 16 in Tallahassee in the third game of the season. UM does not play Florida until the 2019 season opener at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
