Donald Trump has said he wants to be very involved with the UK because “you don’t hear the word Britain anymore”.

The US president promised last week to forge a “very big and exciting” trade deal with the UK after Brexit.

He tweeted that his administration was “working on a major trade deal. Could be very big & exciting. JOBS!”

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mr Trump was asked whether he could give any more information about the prospective deal.

“No, but I can say that we’re going to be very involved with the UK I mean, you don’t hear the word Britain anymore. It’s very interesting. It’s like, nope,” the president said according to a transcript of the interview published by Politico on Tuesday.
