BROOKFIELD — The boards of education and finance recently appointed new members to serve until the November election.

The Board of Education voted five-to-one Tuesday to appoint Rosa Fernandes to the board, filling the vacancy left by Tara Lerner, who resigned last month. Fernandes is also running on the Democratic ticket in the November election to serve on the Board of Education.

Fernandes is a parent and adjunct psychology professor at Western Connecticut State University.

“She has some great credentials and we thought that stylistically she would fit very well with the board,” Chairman Bob Belden said.

The Board of Finance unanimously approved last week the appointment of Democrat John Pitt to fill the vacancy left by Mark Zerbe, who resigned last month after serving on the board since 2015. Pitt is also a candidate in the November election running to sit on the Board of Finance.

Board of Finance Chairman Rob Gianazza said Pitt is a “fresh face” to town politics and will bring new ideas to the board.

“What we liked about Mr. Pitt was his calming effect in analyzing things without emotion,” Gianazza said.
